We started off the term looking at the winter weather. We learnt this song about the water cycle. (The children especially like the part about Uncle Dan in the garbage can!) After discussing how rain gets into the clouds we decided to do a little science investigation into 4 different materials to see which one, if any, would be a good material for a raincoat. We tested the materials for their waterproofing properties rather than their toughness as a material for wearing.
Then we recorded our findings on a sheet of A3 paper either ticking YES or crossing NO to show what we found out. Some children were really engrossed in finding out while others were happy to test with the water over and over and over again.
