At the end of the year we read the story of the first Christmas from our children’s Bible. Each day we read a new section of the Nativity story starting with the angel’s visit to Mary and ending with the visit from the wise men. We repeated the story from the day before to revise and then continued with the next part of the story.
We made some Nativity scenes by first dying some paper with food dyes in sunset colours and then sprinkling salt on to make a firework/star effect. We made our stables out of popsticks glued to a piece of paper and we drew Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus in the stable. Some children chose to draw animals in their stables as well.
After listening to the story of the angels visiting the shepherds we drew the scene onto A3 Cartridge paper with Artline textas. Then we painted the scene with food dye and glued some cottonwool on for the sheep’s wool.
We cut out three triangles from card to make our wise men. We added a head and drew on features. The children had a lot of fun with the glitter glue adding in royal decorations.
To follow up what we had learnt we did a sequencing activity where the children put the nativity story into the correct sequence. We backed them on some purple card and hung them with gold curling ribbon.
