A lot of the boys in my class are very interested in trucks, tractors and basically anything with wheels so we’ve been tapping into that interest and learning about transport, a term that most children seemed to have not heard before. We set the scene for the topic by setting up our classroom with a transport dramatic play area, a train set and a road play set.
My EAs, Cynthia and Janice, spent some time the day before school started back setting up the dramatic play area with a bus, some cardboard cars the children could wear and taping a road to the floor.
The next day I added a washing basket boat and some suitcases to the dramatic play area. We plan on also adding some travel brochures.
On the activity tables we have been putting out our wooden train set and/or our road play set.
We’ve now moved the train set into the block corner to see what happens with it there. We’ll be able to let the children leave it set up there rather than having to pack it up for fruit time and lunch.
