We’ve been discussing different foods that you can eat in winter to keep you warm on the inside. We brainstormed ideas on the board and came up with a list including soup, pasta, sausages, toast, porridge and stew. Last year we made vegetable soup but the class was not a big fan of eating it so this year we decided to try pizzas and they were a big hit.
We let the children decide which toppings they wanted on their pizza. They could choose from ham, cheese, pineapple, olives and capsicum. Some children went the whole hog while others were more conservative with just ham and cheese.
On the activity table we made cardboard pizzas. We painted a cardboard disc with red paint as tomato paste first. We added some glue to the paint so that the children could just sprinkle their toppings on top and they would stick. We shredded paper in the hand shredder to make our cheese and ham bits. We punched holes to make our pepperoni circles, cut triangles for our pineapple and long strips for our capsicum.
