We started off our look at cows by noting down everything we already knew about cows. Living in a dairy farming community the knowledge was fairly extensive. Some children knew that cows were used for meat and were able to suggest several meat products made from cows. Others were able to list dairy products made from the cow’s milk. They knew that baby cows are called calves and that cows can come in a variety of colours.
In our Red Barn books we drew our own cows and then did some crayon rubbings to colour in their tummies.
We also made some brown cows from paper plates. We painted two different sized plates and then gave the children brown card to make the rest of the cow.
