I’ve just completed my 13th year at my current school and in that time I like to think that I have become part of the family in the community. Those who know me well know that I love smurfs, have my own collection and I think I am affectionately referred to as “that crazy smurf lady”, mostly by my Education Assistants!
In the last week of school I was blessed with an outpouring of gifts from the families that I work with. I love how they fed my smurf addiction with the smurf gifts pictured; a playset, a smurf Christmas video and smurfette earrings. I also received a smurf magnet. There were messages of appreciation in cards and it made my day when I was asked by a number of parents if I would still be here in 2 years time when their next child comes through. One of my favourite messages though was this one from one of my 4yr old students:
All of the smurf gifts reminded me of the day I wore my smurf shoes to school. We had read Pete the Cat – I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin quite often and own the little plush Pete the Cat doll that goes with it. We also listen to the song via the link on the front of the book. I told the children that I had bought some shoes online and that I would wear them to school and sing “I Love My Smurf Shoes” all day long. A promise is a promise so as soon as they arrived that’s exactly what I did….well maybe not the singing all day bit but a good proportion of it.
The children took a video of my smurf shoes and of me dancing along and singing my song. They even joined in singing much to my delight. Personally I like my version the best (Please excuse my singing!) but I’ll provide both videos and let you decide for yourself ;).
