We’ve finished looking at Christmas from a religious perspective and have started looking at it from a more secular viewpoint. In the last few weeks we have been talking about Santa and stockings. We drew some fat jolly Santa faces on some A3 cartridge paper with Artline markers. We did this as a scaffolded lesson drawing each bit step by step. The children did a fantastic job.
Afterwards we painted Santa’s nose and hat red.
On another activity table we were practising our fine motor skills with some threading around some stockings. We showed the children the technique of going up and down and how to pull the thread tight but not too tight.
Then we pretty much left them to do it how they liked. Some chose to follow our example while others went around the side and others seemed to follow no logical pattern at all. Some asked for assistance while others confidently tackled it by themselves. In the end each child was pleased with what they had created and that’s all that really matters.
