This week we talked about reindeer. We tried to name all of Santa’s reindeer but it’s a bit like naming the 7 dwarves, you always seem to forget one. Some children mentioned that they leave a carrot out for the reindeer at their house on Christmas Eve along with some milk and cookies for Santa.
At the activity tables we made our own magic reindeer food. Reindeer like oats so we included rolled oats. We needed it to sparkle in the moonlight so the reindeer would be able to to spot it in the dark so we also added a little glitter. We mixed it up in some small lolly bags, gave it a good shake and stuck our two labels on. One label was to indicate that it was magic reindeer food and the other was instructions in the form of a poem.
At another activity table we decided to turn ourselves into reindeer. We used some red face paint to paint red noses on and then we set about making some antler headbands to add. The children traced an antler template and then cut their own antlers out. We stapled them to a strip of card and then proudly wore them.
And of course, we all know that it’s really SIX WHITE BOOMERS pulling the sleigh here in Australia, not reindeer!
