Following our stories about the Angel’s Secret, The Most Special Baby and The Good News we read the story about the three wise men visiting the baby Jesus. We heard how the men followed the star to find the baby Jesus and how they had to take a different path back in order to avoid King Herod. The children were a little incredulous of gifts of “perfume” for the baby. When I asked them later to tell me what gifts the kings had brought the responses were amusing. “Chocolate, baby toys and cupcakes,” said one student.
At the activity table we had a few different supplies for the children to create their kings with; various scraps of card and paper, glitter, glue and glitter paint. The children were very excited about the glitter paint as we don’t get it out too often. It takes a lot of skill to administer the paint through the squeezy nozzle and there were quite a few big blobs of glittery glue everywhere.
The children cut triangle shapes for the robes of each wise men. They drew their own shapes and cut them themselves. We gave them milk lids to trace for the faces of the kings. The children put the kings together in their own fashion, drawing on crowns if they felt like it and adding details with the glitter or glitter paint.
We’ve added these pictures to our classroom display and it’s now looking very Christmassy around our room.
