During the week we were talking about rockets we used the opportunity to practice writing our names. We made name rockets. Some children are already able to write their names and needed little help with this activity while others needed more assistance. We sent them to their take home boxes to get their name. I suggested they start by counting out how many letters were in their names and gathering that many squares for their rocket (Notice how we threw some maths in there without them even realising ;)). We found it was easier for the children to glue the squares down first and then write the letters on but some chose to write the letters first and then arrange them on the paper.
After they’d written the letters of their name the children set about adding details to their rockets. They added wings to the sides, a nose cone and fire blasting out of the bottom.
