Recently we had a go at drawing some insects by looking at some plastic bugs we had. You can view the full post here. We decided to add some colour by painting them with Edicol Dye. We encouraged the children to fill the page with colour, not just paint the bug.
We’ve done a bit of painting using Edicol dye and the children are getting used to the fact that a little dye goes a long way and you need to wipe the brush and spread the dye around. They’ve also learnt that it takes forever to dry and will run when you carry it if you have big puddles of dye on your work.
We used this piece of artwork to illustrate a prayer we wrote as part of our Religion programme (RE Outcomes: Discovering God in people and creation and Catholic practices – prayer experiences). We discussed why God put insects on earth and how useful they could be. We then asked the children to think of a prayer they could write about their bug.
