Today we participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime. We joined organisations from Broome to Hobart, reading the picture book The Very Cranky Bear to more than 170,000 children across Australia at exactly the same time. We asked our local librarian, Ruth, to come and read the story with us. Ruth is a very animated storyteller and she brought a positive vibe to the event. She asked the children if they knew any songs about bears and we sang We’re Going on a Bear Hunt with her. Ruth joined in, actions and all, and it was a delightful experience. The Very Cranky Bear is an engaging story about some friends who are trying to find a place to play. The problem is a bear is sleeping there. You’ll have to read the story yourself to find out what happens.
The day before the event we made some bear ear headbands to wear while we listened to the story. We also brought in our teddies to share the reading with us. We invited the local newspaper to come and take photographs for an article on our event. We decided we would pose in our bear ears with our crankiest bear faces for the photograph. We are VERY VERY excited about the possibility of having our picture in the newspaper next week.
